Meet the Staff

Melanie Mintzer, MD|Jason Bhan, MD|Susan Marshall, FNP|Robin Viviano, FNP|Mary Hoff, M.Ed.

        Melanie Mintzer, MD

  • Melanie Mintzer graduated with a BA in Anthropology and Chemistry from Wellesley College, Wellesley, MA. She attended medical school at McGill University Faculty of Medicine, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She did her residency in Family Medicine at San Francisco General Hospital, where she became the Chief Resident, Family Practice.
  • Upon completion of her residency, she worked at a number of clinics in Northern California.
  • In 1984, she moved to North Carolina, working in public health. In 1985, she began teaching Family Medicine at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill School of Medicine. She taught at Chapel Hill until 2002, when she went into private practice.
  • Dr. Mintzer founded Generations Family Practice in 2005.
  • She is Board Certified by the American Board of Family Practice.

Jason Bhan, MD

  • Jason Bhan, M.D. is both a practicing Family Physician and seasoned entrepreneur, who served as a consultant and medical adviser to Medsite prior to its acquisition by WebMD. While in medical school, he served as the Medical and Technology Officer for VirtualMed, Inc. and helped launch MiamiHealth.com, which provided physicians with an online presence.
  • Dr. Bhan completed his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Miami School of Medicine in 2000. From 2000 to 2003 he completed his residency at the Medical College of Virginia (MCV), serving as Chief Resident in 2003. He was in private practice in Manassas, Virginia in affiliation with Inova Hospital Systems until June 2010. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor and Community Preceptor at MCV and is board certified in Family Medicine.

Susan Marshall, FNP

  • Susan Marshall graduated with a BA from East Tennessee State. She received her MSN from UNC Chapel Hill and graduated from the Post-Masters Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program at UNC-CH.
  • She enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and worked for ten years as a Family Nurse Practitioner. In that role she provided patient care for active duty deployable troops, retirees and family members. She was the senior advisor to Commanding Officer consulting on personnel and medically related matters, as well as being the sole medical provider onboard U.S. ships underway in remote locations.
  • She then retired from the service, and worked at various private medical clinics, moving to North Carolina in 2004 where she continued her work in private clinics and served as a clinical instructor at UNC-CH School of Nursing. She joined Generations Family Practice in 2009.
  • She coordinated the development and operation of a small clinic at the Community Development Center in a slum community near Nairobi, Kenya. She has also been a member of a medical mission to Ecuador working in remote communities and orphanages.

Robin Viviano, FNP

  • Robin Viviano, FNP has over twenty-seven years of experience as a healthcare provider, the last twelve years as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Holding a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from Indiana University, as well as a Masters’ degree from Saint Louis University as a Family Nurse Practitioner, she served for over twenty years in the US Air Force where she was a Registered Nurse Manager and as a Nurse Practitioner at Pope Air Force Base.
  • Since her retirement from the Air Force, she has worked in several practices in the Triangle; including Apex Medical Center in Apex, Family Practice Associates in Raleigh, All Care Internal Medicine & Pediatrics also in Raleigh, and for On Assignment Healthcare at a variety of family practices around the area.
  • She also serves as a Family Nurse Practitioner, Consultant for the State of Indiana, where she reviews initial intake and annual cases related to medical and/or nursing treatment for developmentally delayed, mentally retarded or traumatic brain injuries. In addition, she provids routine oversight to clinicians which results in improved health care policies, practices and standards for this special client population
  • She is particularly interested in caring for adolescents, as well as internal medicine patients with a focus on cardiology, hypertension, and cholesterol management. She joined Generations Family Practice this year.

Mary Hoff, M.Ed.

  • Mary Hoff received a B.A. in Humanities and Arts from Charter Oak College in Hartford, Conn.(1982) and a Masters of Education in Special Education (concentration in Learning Disabilities) from N.C. State University in Raleigh, N.C (1994).
  • She served as Coordinator of Disability Services for students with Learning Disabilities at Wake Technical Community College from 1992 to 1996, and as the Interim Director of all Disability Services at Wake Technical Community College from June-August 1996.
  • In private practice since 1995, Ms. Hoff specializes in teaching time management and study, work, and life skills to adolescents and adults with Learning Disabilities (LD) and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD).
  • She joined Generations Family Practice in 2007.
