Generations Family
Practice was established in 2005, and has been serving the community in
its present location since March of 2006. Our practice has grown quickly due to
patient-focused, compassionate care.
The staff here at Generations Family Practice firmly believes in providing its patients with quality health care in a friendly, inviting atmosphere. We are genuinely concerned with your total health and provide the best comprehensive healthcare available.
Meet the Staff
Melanie Mintzer, MD
- Melanie Mintzer graduated with a BA in Anthropology and Chemistry from Wellesley College, Wellesley, MA. She attended medical school at McGill University Faculty of Medicine, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She did her residency in Family Medicine at San Francisco General Hospital, where she became the Chief Resident, Family Practice.
- Upon completion of her residency, she worked at a number of clinics in Northern California.
- In 1984, she moved to North Carolina, working in public health. In 1985, she began teaching Family Medicine at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill School of Medicine. She taught at Chapel Hill until 2002, when she went into private practice.
- Dr. Mintzer founded Generations Family Practice in 2005.
- She is Board Certified by the American Board of Family Practice.
Susan Marshall, FNP
- Susan Marshall graduated with a BA from East Tennessee State. She received her MSN from UNC Chapel Hill and graduated from the Post-Masters Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program at UNC-CH.
- She enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and worked for ten years as a Family Nurse Practitioner. In that role she provided patient care for active duty deployable troops, retirees and family members. She was the senior advisor to Commanding Officer consulting on personnel and medically related matters, as well as being the sole medical provider onboard U.S. ships underway in remote locations.
- She then retired from the service, and worked at various private medical clinics, moving to North Carolina in 2004 where she continued her work in private clinics and served as a clinical instructor at UNC-CH School of Nursing. She joined Generations Family Practice in 2009.
- She coordinated the development and operation of a small clinic at the Community Development Center in a slum community near Nairobi, Kenya. She has also been a member of a medical mission to Ecuador working in remote communities and orphanages.
