Born and raised on the Caribbean Island of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, Janine Barreiro, RN, MSN, FNP-BC moved to North Carolina in 2006. Employed at UNC Chapel Hill, she determined that a future in medicine was for her. Setting her sights on a career in nursing, she earned her Masters in Nursing at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Janine is currently a Member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, American Association of Neuroscience Nurses, and Sigma Theta Tau.
As a family nurse practitioner, Janine loves working with all age groups, from pediatric to geriatric. She specifically enjoys working collaboratively with her patients, involving them in their care and care decisions. Having them ‘back to feeling better’ as a result is the reason she loves what she does!
When she’s not busy helping people feel better, Janine enjoys spending time with her family and reading a good book of fiction. Especially suspense and drama! When asked if she misses her childhood home of St. Thomas, she reminisces about the wonderful food and beautiful beaches. And of course she misses her family, whom still lives on the island. However, she loves living in the Raleigh area. Being close to the beaches and the mountains, Raleigh is the best of both worlds!
