Doctor Robert Paterson loves taking care of people and using his medical talents. He earned his bachelor’s degree in zoology from Duke University and went on to their medical school and residency in Internal Medicine. He moved to Florida for a time, but returned in 1989 to become a fellow in General Medicine at Duke Hospital.
For 30 years, he taught medical students and residents and took care of complex medical problems. Dr. Paterson was honored in 2011 by his fellow physicians when they elected him as one of the “Best Doctors in America.” He has also received recognition by the National Committee for Quality Assurance for his quality of care for diabetes, stroke and cardiovascular diseases.
Dr. Paterson was pleased to retire from Duke and find a home with us at Generations Family Practice, focusing on men’s health.
In his free time, he loves to sail. He met his wife, Ann, while racing sailboats in Florida. Dr. Paterson owns a Corsair Trimaran and loves to sail on the North Carolina coast near Morehead City. His son, Rob, is now pursuing a medical career, and his daughter works at the Duke Clinical Research Institute.
